Religious accounts suggest that the Garibnath Temple has a history spanning approximately three hundred years. Tradition holds that the site was once a dense forest with seven large peepal trees. It is said that during the felling of these trees, a substance the color of blood emerged, and a large lingam was discovered. Subsequently, the deity, known as Baba, is believed to have appeared in the landowner's dream, marking the beginning of continuous worship at this sacred location.

The presiding deity is known by the names Garibnath and Garibeshwara, which translate to "Lord of the poor." The temple holds particular significance during the month of Sawan, a period during which prayers are believed to have special efficacy in fulfilling devotees' wishes.
