Ahmedabad Kali Bari

The Ahmedabad Kali Bari is a Hindu temple situated in Ahmedabad, India, dedicated to Goddess Kali. It also serves as a significant center for Bengali culture within the city. Established in 2014, the temple is located on Kali Bari Road in West Ahmedabad.

History and Establishment

The temple was constructed in 2014 by the Bengal Cultural Association of Ahmedabad, an organization recognized as one of Gujarat's oldest Bengali community groups. A notable event associated with the temple is the annual Durga Puja festival, which takes place on a field adjacent to the temple. The association responsible for the Kali Bari has a long history of celebrating Durga Puja in Ahmedabad, having held their first celebration over 80 years prior to 2022, when they marked their 85th Durga Puja.

Architecture and Features

The Ahmedabad Kali Bari is an important religious and cultural site for the Bengali community in Ahmedabad, managed by the Bengal Cultural Association. The temple complex is extensive, covering an area of 2000 square yards and is situated on S G Road. Its design accommodates various deities, including Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva, Ram, Sita, Hanuman, and Krishna, all within the same structure. The primary building exemplifies Bengal architecture, featuring a traditional Bengali kutir (hut) style. A focal point of the temple is the statue of Goddess Kali, which is an exact replica of the renowned idol found at the Dakshineswar temple in Kolkata, meticulously carved by artist Sanathan Rudra Pal. The temple's official inauguration was conducted by Swami Sadananda Saraswati Ji Maharaj from Sharda Peeth Dwarka.
