Her dedication extended to practical matters, such as learning to drive to transport residents.
Martyrdom and Beatification
In 1993, a man named Augusto da Silva Peixoto, who was not supposed to be at the shelter, became obsessed with Oliveira and began to harass her. Despite efforts to maintain distance and professional conduct, the situation escalated. On April 9, 1993, while serving breakfast at the Dom Pedro II Home, Peixoto attacked her, stabbing her 44 times. His motive was her refusal to abandon her religious life for him. Her death was recognized as a martyrdom in defense of chastity by Pope Benedict XVI.
Oliveira was beatified on December 2, 2007, with Cardinal José Saraiva Martins presiding. Her remains are venerated in the Capela das Relíquias da Beata Lindalva in Brazil.
