He has been described as resembling a wheel with multiple legs, a form that might allude to Ixion from Greek mythology, who was bound to a winged fiery wheel. Another common depiction features a lion's head with multiple goat legs. Later illustrations solidify this imagery, showing a lion's head accompanied by five, six, or more goat or horse legs, suggesting a capacity for movement in any direction.

The Lesser Key of Solomon specifies that Buer appears in the astrological sign of Sagittarius when the Sun is present there, a period generally spanning from late November to late December.
