Born Nishant Khurrana on September 14, 1984, in Chandigarh, India, his name was later changed to Ayushmann by his parents. He hails from a Punjabi Khatri family. Khurrana received his early education in Chandigarh, attending St. John's High School and DAV College. He pursued higher education at Panjab University, where he earned a master's degree in Mass Communication. His passion for performance was evident early on, as he was involved in theatre for five years, participating in numerous plays and co-founding theatre groups.

Career Beginnings and Film Debut

Khurrana began his career in media as a radio personality in Delhi after completing his studies. He gained national recognition by winning the second season of the reality television show MTV Roadies in 2004. This success led him to a career in television anchoring, hosting various shows on MTV and STAR Plus. His transition to films came with the 2012 romantic comedy Vicky Donor, where his portrayal of a sperm donor garnered widespread praise and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He also contributed musically to the film, singing and co-composing the song "Pani Da Rang".

Ayushmann Khurrana married his childhood friend, Tahira Kashyap, in 2008. They have two children. Kashyap, a filmmaker and writer, has been an important figure in his life, particularly during her battle with breast cancer, a period where Khurrana credited her Buddhist faith for her strength. Beyond his acting career, Khurrana is actively involved in social causes. Since February 2023, he has served as a national UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for India, advocating for children's rights and well-being.
