Life and Martyrdom
Tradition recounts that Roderick was a priest from Cabra. He had two brothers, one who was Muslim and another who was irreligious. During an altercation between his brothers, Roderick attempted to mediate. However, they turned on him and beat him. Upon waking, Roderick discovered that his Muslim brother had reported him to the authorities, falsely claiming he had converted to Islam. When Roderick steadfastly maintained his loyalty to the Christian faith, he was accused of apostasy under Sharia law.
He was subsequently imprisoned and then beheaded in Córdoba, alongside Salomon (Solomon).
Legacy
Saint Roderick's martyrdom has led to his veneration as a saint. The St. Roderick's Convent and Hospital, established in the 16th century in Cabra, is named in his honor, preserving his memory and devotion.
