Born on November 12, 1862, in Verona, Maria Domenica Mantovani was the eldest of four children. On December 8, 1886, she made a private vow of chastity. In 1892, she took a pivotal step by co-founding the religious congregation of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family alongside Nascimbeni. She became the first superior of this order and led it for forty years. Mantovani and four companions made their solemn profession on November 4, 1892. The institute later received papal approval on June 3, 1932, from Pope Pius XI. Maria Domenica Mantovani died in 1934 due to complications from influenza. During the ceremony, he praised her as a "praiseworthy daughter of the region of Verona" and a "fine example of holiness," noting her inspiration from the Holy Family of Nazareth to serve "all things to all people," particularly the "poor people."
The second miracle required for her canonization was investigated between 2015 and 2016. On May 27, 2020, Pope Francis authorized a decree approving a miracle, paving the way for her canonization. The announcement of her canonization, along with several others, was made on November 9, 2021, with the ceremony taking place on May 15, 2022.
