The soldier demanded to know her destination, and in her fright, Anysia made the sign of the cross. When she admitted to being a Christian, the soldier attempted to force her to sacrifice to the Roman gods. In defiance, Anysia struggled with him and spat in his face. Enraged, the soldier killed her with his sword.
Veneration and Legacy
Following her death, Christians buried Anysia near the gate. After the persecution ended, they erected a chapel over her grave. Anysia is venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church, particularly in regions with historical Byzantine influence. Her feast day is observed on December 30.
